The best time to treat retinal detachment of foraminal origin

The earlier surgery is performed for a foramen ovale, the better the outcome, as the patient’s vision can be severely impaired. Foraminal retinal detachment is one of the most common types of retinal detachment. It occurs when a hole in the retina causes fluid from the eye to pass through the hole and enter the retina below, separating the retina from the wall of the eye, thus creating a retinal detachment. Early in the course of the disease, if detected and treated as soon as possible, the treatment is usually more effective. When the retinal detachment is small, it can be treated with fundus laser therapy to prevent further expansion of the detachment. If a large retinal detachment has formed, surgical treatment is needed to reset the retina as soon as possible. Commonly used surgical procedures include vitrectomy and extrascleral cushion pressure surgery. Patients with foraminal retinal detachment are advised to seek prompt medical attention to evaluate their condition and follow the doctor’s instructions.
