In this formula, ginseng replenishes vital energy and has the effect of benefiting qi and yang; Cistanchiakia warms kidney yang and benefits essence and blood. Radix Rehmanniae Praeparata tonifies blood, nourishes yin, benefits essence and fills the marrow; Fructus Lycii tonifies the kidney and benefits essence; Epimedium, Rhizoma Sagittatum, Clove tonifies the kidney and helps yang, astringes essence and stops spermatorrhea (consolidates semen and prevents spermatorrhea). The above five herbs are used together to fill kidney essence without harming yang, and to warm and tonify kidney yang without harming yin.
