The normal liver in a normal-sized person is projected on the surface of the body mainly in the right quadrant of the ribs, located in the deep surface of the ribs. Generally speaking, during physical examination, the location of the liver border on percussion is roughly along the right midclavicular line, with the upper border at the 5th intercostal space and the lower border at the lower edge of the right quaternary ribs; along the right midaxillary line, with the upper border at the 7th intercostal space and the lower border about flush with the 10th intercostal space; and along the right scapular line, with the upper border at the 10th intercostal space. If the body is long and thin, the liver border can be one rib interval lower than the above, and if the body is short and fat, the upper and lower borders can be one rib interval higher than the above. And the liver has a certain degree of mobility, can be slightly changed with breathing and changes in body position. Knowing the normal anatomical position of the liver is good for the judgment of diseases, but if you feel sick, it is recommended to consult a doctor in time and not to diagnose and treat by yourself.
