Inflammation of the trachea, which is also known as tracheo-bronchitis, is treated with medications chosen according to the accompanying symptoms and active anti-infective therapy when coughing occurs. 1. Symptomatic treatment (1) When there is no sputum or little sputum in the cough, dextromethorphan and pentoxyverine can be given to suppress the cough. (2) When the cough is accompanied by sputum and the sputum is not easy to be discharged, aminoglutethimide hydrochloride, bromhexine, myrtle oil extract can be used to resolve the sputum, or nebulized acetylcysteine, aminoglutethimide and other drugs to help expectoration. (3) When the cough is severe and accompanied by airway spasm, asthma medicines such as aminophylline and β2 agonists such as salmeterol and formoterol can be used. 2. Anti-infective treatment, when there is evidence of bacterial infection, give macrolides such as roxithromycin, penicillins such as amoxicillin, cephalosporins such as cefuroxime and other antibiotics. 3. General treatment, more rest, drink more water, avoid exertion. Inflammation of the trachea with cough, if the symptoms worsen, should immediately seek medical attention.
