The size of the scar after a tibiofibular fracture is determined by the type of surgery. The scar will be bigger in case of internal fixation with plate screws and smaller in case of intramedullary nail fixation.
1. Plate screw fixation: The incision in plate screw fixation is relatively longer. Depending on the type of fracture, the incision may vary from a few centimeters to more than ten centimeters and twenty centimeters, and the postoperative scar will be as long as the incision accordingly.
2. Intramedullary Nail Fixation: Most of the patients with intramedullary nail fixation will use closed reduction, so the incision is very small. Each incision is about one centimeter. Some may be slightly longer, but the number of incisions will be more than that of plate fixation. The scar is much smaller after intramedullary nail fixation.
After a tibiofibular fracture, it is important to go to a regular hospital for consultation and treatment, and not to take care of it on your own, so as not to delay the condition.
