Piperacillin/tazobactam is a penicillin antibacterial drug with a broad antimicrobial spectrum that is used to treat respiratory infections, urinary tract infections, abdominal infections, bloodstream infections, bone and joint infections, and skin infections.
Piperacillin/tazobactam can be used for several systemic infectious diseases such as pneumonia, lung abscess, pleural effusion, urinary tract infection, liver abscess, diffuse peritonitis, appendicitis, acute hematogenous osteomyelitis, cellulitis, boils, carbuncles, pelvic inflammatory disease, endometritis.
There is a risk of allergy to piperacillin/tazobactam, and a skin test must be performed prior to administration. Piperacillin/tazobactam is contraindicated if the patient is allergic to penicillins, cephalosporins or beta-lactamase inhibitors. Dosage adjustment is required for pregnant women and children under 12 years of age, patients with hepatic or renal insufficiency, and should be administered under medical supervision.
Piperacillin/tazobactam may have some adverse reactions after use, common gastrointestinal reactions, rash, itching, phlebitis, elevated transaminases, fever, etc. Once the adverse reactions occur, should be discontinued or changed to other medications as prescribed by the doctor to avoid delays in the condition.
