Treatments for left rib laceration fracture include medication and surgery.
Left rib laceration fracture is categorized into closed single rib fracture, closed multiple multiple rib fracture, and open rib fracture.
1. Closed single rib fracture: the chest can be immobilized with multiple strips of chest cloth, wide adhesive tape strips or elastic chest strap.
2. Closed multiple multiple rib fractures
(1) For patients with less severe fractures, the chest can be immobilized with a chest strap.
(2) For patients with large chest wall tenderness and obvious paradoxical respiration, a traction brace should be placed on the chest wall of the injured side, and the free segment of ribs should be fixed on the traction brace to eliminate the paradoxical respiration of the chest wall; or the flail can be fixed by introducing wires under the direct visualization of thoracoscopy.
(3) For patients with weak cough, inability to expel sputum, and respiratory failure, tracheal intubation or tracheotomy is required to facilitate suctioning of sputum, administration of oxygen, and administration of assisted respiration.
(4) If the patient has surgical indication, open heart surgery is feasible. Drill holes in the two broken ends of the ribs and fix the broken ends of the ribs with stainless steel wires.
3. Open rib fracture: If the pleura has been penetrated, pleural cavity drainage is required.
The above patients can be given non-steroidal anti-inflammatory and analgesic drugs such as indomethacin and diclofenac sodium extended-release tablets after immobilization and surgery, and antibiotic therapy such as penicillin.
It is recommended to go to the hospital in time for regular treatment under the doctor’s guidance. The above drugs should be applied under the guidance of a doctor and avoid self-medication.
