What if your braces rub your mouth?

The correct term for braces is aligners. For mild cases of mouth grinding, aligners can be gradually adapted with use, and for more severe cases, orthodontic protective wax can be used to minimize friction, as described below. Orthodontic appliances are used for the corrective treatment of malocclusion and can be placed on the labial or lingual side of the teeth and usually include orthodontic brackets, archwires, attachments, etc. At the initial stage when the aligner is placed in the mouth, discomfort may be caused by the foreign body sensation, which can be gradually adapted with the use of the aligner and no special treatment is required. If the appliance causes greater friction to the mucous membrane of the mouth, or even mucous membrane damage, pain and other symptoms, orthodontic protective wax can be used under medical advice, and placed on the brackets, attachments or the end of the archwire, in order to minimize the trauma to the mucous membrane. If the trauma to the mucosa is serious, it is recommended to go to the hospital in time for early targeted treatment.
