Welding hit the eye is considered to be electro-optic ophthalmia, conjunctivitis and electro-optic ophthalmia are different in terms of etiology, symptoms and treatment.
1. Etiology: Conjunctivitis is related to pathogenic microbial infection, allergy, spread of inflammation in neighboring organs, etc., while wearing contact lenses and not paying attention to eye hygiene are the triggering factors. Electrophotographic ophthalmitis can occur in welding operations and places that produce ultraviolet radiation.
2. Symptoms: Conjunctivitis often causes patients to experience symptoms such as foreign body sensation, burning sensation, increased secretion, photophobia and tearing. And electro-optical ophthalmia may cause some patients to have a foreign body sensation or mild discomfort in the eye, and in severe cases, there will be a burning sensation and severe pain in the eye, which may be accompanied by a high degree of photophobia, tearing, blepharospasm and other symptoms.
3. Treatment: Clinical conjunctivitis, the main use of drug treatment, if the bacterial, chlamydial infection, available penicillin, chloramphenicol and other antibiotics, and viral infections need to use ganciclovir, acyclovir and other antiviral drugs. When there is a lot of secretion from the eyes, 3% boric acid solution and saline can be used to rinse the conjunctival sac.
Less severe cases can be relieved by themselves without special treatment. If the condition is serious, patients can use topical 0.5% to 1% dicaine solution to relieve pain, but also local ice packs to relieve eye discomfort. Some patients also need to apply anti-infective drugs, such as mupirocin, cefixime and so on.
