Babies with mental retardation do not necessarily have difficulty walking, but need to be judged according to the cause of mental retardation.
1. Cerebral palsy: this is caused by brain injury in developing fetus or infant, with motor disorder as the main manifestation, about half of the affected children with mental retardation, and this kind of mental retardation is often accompanied by walking difficulties.
2. Down’s syndrome: this is a chromosomal disorder, also known as trisomy 21, which is mainly manifested as backwardness of intelligence, special facial features, growth retardation, etc. Most of the babies do not affect walking if they are not accompanied by deformities of the lower limbs.
3. Diseases causing mental retardation: for example, intrauterine infection during pregnancy, birth injury, encephalitis, etc., may cause the baby’s mental retardation, only affecting the motor center or limb injury, there may be walking difficulties.
