What to eat and drink after a colonoscopy

Generally 2 hours after colonoscopy, you can eat and drink, avoid stimulating food within 24 hours, after biopsy and other operations, you should have a light, liquid diet. For those who have painless colonoscopy, due to general anesthesia during the operation, they should not eat or drink for 2 hours after waking up from colonoscopy, and they can start to eat and drink for 2 hours after waking up. Patients undergoing normal colonoscopy or painless colonoscopy will have gas in the intestine after the procedure, so they can also wait until the stomach and intestines are comfortable before eating. General routine examination will not cause damage to the intestinal mucosa, there are endoscopic treatments such as biopsy polypectomy, ESD, etc. There will be damage to the intestinal mucosa, and spicy and irritating foods should be prohibited for 24 hours to promote the recovery of the intestinal mucosa. If traumatic operations such as pathologic biopsy and polypectomy are performed during colonoscopy, a light diet should be taken for 1~2 days after the examination and gradually return to a normal diet from fluids and semi-liquids. Patients undergoing endoscopic treatment need to have the fasting time decided by the doctor according to the size of the trauma and the bleeding situation. Diet should be followed after relevant treatment, examination, etc. during colonoscopy to avoid discomfort and injury caused by improper diet after examination.
