Lotus leaf infusion has the efficacy of clearing summer heat, resolving dampness and cooling the blood, but the infusion may not be able to completely precipitate the active ingredients of the lotus leaf, and its therapeutic efficacy is limited by using only the lotus leaf.
The lotus leaf is the dried leaves of the lotus plant of the water lily family. It is bitter in flavor and flat in nature. It belongs to the liver, spleen and stomach meridians. It can clear summer heat and dampness, raise the Qing Yang (transporting the nutrients from digested food to the head and face and other parts of the body), cool blood and stop bleeding. It is used in treating summer-heat and thirst, summer-dampness and diarrhea, diarrhea due to spleen deficiency, epistaxis due to blood-heat (vomiting blood and nosebleed due to blood-heat), blood in the stool, and metrorrhagia (excessive menstrual flow or dripping).
Patients are advised to use the medicine under the guidance of a doctor and should not take the medicine by themselves to avoid delay or aggravation of the condition.
