Can white peony be used externally?

White peony is mainly used for internal use in decoction, and is generally not used for external use. White peony is made from the dried root of peony in the buttercup family. It is bitter, sour and slightly cold in nature, and can enter the liver and spleen meridians, with the effects of astringing yin and stopping sweating (astringing the yin fluid to reduce sweating), calming liver yang, nourishing blood and regulating menstruation, and softening the liver to relieve pain (treating pain caused by deficiency of liver yin and liver blood). It can be used in the treatment of blood deficiency, spontaneous sweating (involuntary sweating during the day, aggravated by sweating with slight movement), dystocia (pain in the area of coeruleus and ribs), contracture of the limbs, menstrual disorders, night sweating (abnormal sweating after going to sleep and stopping sweating after waking up), abdominal pain, headache and dizziness. It is not suitable to be used together with Veratrum. White peony is usually taken internally by decoction, but can also be used in pills and proteins, and is generally not used externally. The drug needs to be used under the guidance of traditional Chinese medicine, and should not be taken blindly to avoid delaying the condition. If there is any discomfort, please consult a doctor promptly.
