Xiao Chai Hu Tang is composed of Chai Hu, Pinellia, Scutellaria and Ginseng. Xiao Chai Hu Tang is mainly used in treating typhoid fever with symptoms of Shao Yang, such as cold and heat (the body is hot and cold at the same time), dizziness, bitter fullness in the chest (feeling fullness and discomfort in the front and sides of the chest), lack of desire for food and drink, bitter taste in the mouth, dryness of the throat, and upset and nausea. Xiao Chai Hu Tang can also be used to treat women with typhoid fever (a disease in which fever is caused by feeling cold), in which heat enters the blood compartment and manifests itself as a sudden interruption of menstruation, with episodes of chills and fever at times. Xiao Chaihu Tang is also used for jaundice, malaria and other conditions that are attributed to Shaoyang.
