Why is there a clinical diagnosis on the pathology report

Clinical diagnosis is the doctor’s diagnosis of the patient’s condition and pathogenesis, which cannot appear on the pathology report. Pathology report is the tissue intercepted from the patient’s lesion site, through frozen section, staining and other steps. Observed by the pathologist under the microscope, and reported in writing the results of the pathology, to provide information for the follow-up of clinical treatment; clinical diagnosis is generally made by the clinician through the questioning, the collection of medical records and the diagnosis, so it will not appear on the pathology report. The content of the pathology report mainly includes the appearance of the biopsy tissue, cellular structure and pathological changes, whether benign or malignant, generally reported by the pathologist, the conclusive diagnosis is called “pathological diagnosis”; while the clinical diagnosis is based on the cause of the disease, the nature of the lesion site, combined with the results of the pathology, to determine the disease and the process of treatment. The diagnosis on the pathology report is more than the pathological diagnosis, which is the result of the judgment of the pathologist, and is consistent with the clinical diagnosis in most cases.
