An 8 year old baby girl should have a follicle, but this follicle is a primordial follicle, which women are born with. There are three types of follicles: primordial follicles, growing follicles and mature follicles. Normally, when a baby is born, there are between 700,000 and 2 million primordial follicles on both sides of the ovaries. It is only as a woman ages and menstruates that the follicles mature and ovulation occurs. Therefore, it is normal for an 8-year-old baby girl to have primordial follicles in her ovaries. The reproductive organs of an 8-year-old baby are not yet mature and the size of the follicles in her body is about 4 millimeters. By monitoring the primordial follicles, it is possible to see if the baby is experiencing precocious puberty. If the follicles in the baby’s body are more than 4 millimeters, it should be considered as a result of precocious puberty and further improvement of examination is needed. If 8-year-old babies are found to have primordial follicles when they undergo checkups, they need not worry too much and can go to the hospital for sex hormone 6 tests to clarify their growth and development.
