Bicycling tears are commonly caused by sand irritation, narrowed or blocked tear ducts, inflammation of the eye surface, and dry eye.
1. Stimulation by wind and sand: When cycling is fast or windy, the eye surface is more likely to be stimulated by wind and sand and secrete more tears, resulting in tearing.
2. Narrowing or blockage of the tear ducts: It is often difficult to discharge the tears through the normal tear ducts after the tears are secreted. When cycling, too much irritating tears are difficult to be discharged, which can be manifested as tearing.
