Symptoms of fishbone scratching the esophagus mainly include pain when eating and difficulty in swallowing, foreign body sensation and pain and discomfort behind the sternum, vomiting blood and black stools, and so on.
1. Pain when swallowing or eating: If the fishbone scratches the esophageal mucosa or deeper tissues, the patient will have the symptoms of pain when eating and difficulty in swallowing.
2. Pain and discomfort behind the sternum: If a sharp fishbone is lodged in the wall of the esophagus, the patient will have the symptom of foreign body sensation and pain and discomfort behind the sternum.
3. Vomiting blood and black stool: If there is gastrointestinal bleeding after the fishbone pierces the esophagus, the patient may show symptoms of vomiting blood and black stool.
Other symptoms may occur after a fishbone cuts the esophagus, and the patient should go to the hospital immediately to receive treatment to avoid adverse effects.
