A lump behind the cheek below the ear may be related to parotid gland adenolymphoma, parotid gland tuberculosis, 2nd gill slit cyst and other diseases.
1. Adenolymphoma of parotid gland: this disease is mostly seen in middle-aged and old men, and is closely related to smoking. It occurs in the posterior and inferior pole of the superficial lobe of parotid gland, i.e. the back of parotid gland under the ear. The lesions are round and oval, with clear borders and smooth edges.
2. Tuberculosis of parotid gland: This disease is usually caused by tuberculous infection of lymph nodes in the parotid gland, which involves the parenchyma of the gland after swelling and ulceration. The common sites are in front of the ear screen and below the back of the earlobe, in the form of lumps, mostly with clear boundaries and movable.
3. 2nd gill slit cyst: this disease is caused by the incomplete closure of the 2nd gill groove during embryonic development. It is often located in the lower part of the parotid area, between the angle of the mandible and the sternocleidomastoid muscle. These cysts are prone to rupture and form sinus tracts. ultrasound shows cystic space-occupying lesions.
When a lump is found in the back of the cheek below the ear, it is necessary to actively seek medical treatment and systematic examination to clarify the diagnosis.
