Lung puncture is primarily used to examine the nature of lung space-occupying diseases, such as lung nodules and lung masses.
Lung puncture is a tissue biopsy, which means that a puncture biopsy is performed to take a small amount of tissue from the lesion site, along with pathology, to be able to determine the nature of the space-occupying lesion, e.g., to determine whether the nodule or mass is a benign nodule, a benign tumor, or a malignant nodule, a malignant tumor.
If a space-occupying disease is found in the lungs but the diagnosis cannot be confirmed, a lung puncture biopsy needs to be performed as prescribed by the doctor to further define the exact cause and type of the disease before the next step of treatment can be taken.
