Systemic lupus erythematosus belongs to Chinese medicine “red butterfly sores”, “yin and yang poison” category. Chinese medicine can use rhinoceros horn dihuang soup, six flavors of dihuang pill, four gentleman’s soup, gardenia free powder and other drugs.
1. Rhinoceros Horn Di Huang Tang is mainly used for the treatment of heat-toxicity blazing (the body fire is too exuberant) type, manifested as facial butterfly-shaped erythema, purple spots on the skin, joint pain, high fever, irritability and thirst, etc. The formula consists of rhinoceros horn, oyster and peony. The formula is composed of Rhizoma Rhinoceros, Mudan Pi, Red Peony and Radix et Rhizoma Shengdi. It is not suitable for those with spleen yang deficiency.
2. Six-flavored Di Huang Pill is mainly used for Yin deficiency and fire exuberance type, manifesting as dark red spots, heel pain, heat in the hands and feet, and floating red face.
3. Si Jun Zi Tang combined with Dan Xiao Yi San can be used for treating spleen deficiency and liver exuberance type, with purple spots on skin, abdominal distension, dizziness, irregular menstruation and so on.
