Why do meningiomas come back?

The main reasons for the recurrence of meningioma are residual tumor after surgery and postoperative recurrence of malignant meningioma.
1. Tumor residue after surgery: most of the meningiomas are benign tumors, which can be completely resected after surgery, but it cannot be ruled out that some of the tumors have close relationship with the peripheral nerves and blood vessels in the process of growth, in which case the surgery may not be able to completely resect them, which may result in the remaining of the tumor cells and lead to the recurrence of the tumors.
2. Postoperative recurrence of malignant meningioma: Generally speaking, benign meningiomas are less likely to recur, while malignant meningiomas have a higher recurrence rate because malignant tumors are generally infiltrative growth, and they are very prone to distant metastasis or recurrence.
For patients with this kind of disease, even after surgery, they still need to have regular review, and should seek medical treatment in time if recurrence is found.
