Hypothyroidism is the abbreviation for hypothyroidism. Sweating is not a cause of hypothyroidism, so too much sweating is usually not a cause of hypothyroidism. The causes of hypothyroidism include autoimmune thyroiditis (e.g. Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, atrophic thyroiditis, etc.), surgical or radioactive iodine treatment, hypothalamic or pituitary gland lesions, iodine overdose, and congenital and temporary hypothyroidism (e.g. subacute thyroiditis). Excessive sweating is usually caused by physiologic factors such as body sweating after exercise, excessively hot summer weather, and possibly endocrine disorders such as hyperthyroidism and other disease factors. Patients who are suspected to have excessive sweating caused by pathological factors or suspected to be suffering from hypothyroidism are advised to go to the hospital for consultation.
