What is benign ground glass nodule removal

Benign ground glass nodule resection usually refers to a surgical procedure to treat ground glass nodules. Benign ground-glass nodules are benign lesions with high density of ground-glass-like shadows on imaging, which may be caused by pneumonia, tuberculosis, or excessive dust inhalation. They usually appear as thin, dense, cloudy shadows, similar to frosted glass, that grow slowly in size or gradually decrease in size and disappear, with a clear, uniform interior border, and with internal vascular and bronchial shadows visible. Benign frosted glass nodules can usually be treated by segmental lung resection, which identifies and removes the lobe in which the lesion is located, greatly preserves healthy lung tissue and is less invasive, resulting in a quicker postoperative recovery. It can also be treated by wedge resection and minimally invasive surgery for ground-glass nodules. Patients are advised to choose the appropriate treatment after diagnosis at the hospital and according to the doctor’s guidance.
