Acute glomerulonephritis and acute pyelonephritis are obviously different in terms of etiology, site of infection, clinical manifestations and treatment modalities.
1. Causes: acute glomerulonephritis is mainly caused by β-streptococcus infection, while acute pyelonephritis is mostly caused by Escherichia coli infection.
2. Site of infection: the former infection is mainly in the glomerulus, partly accompanied by abnormal renal function; while the latter is mainly in the renal pelvis, which will not lead to impaired renal function if the infection is not serious.
3. Clinical manifestations: the former is mainly manifested as hematuria, hypertension, edema, usually with a history of antecedent infection; the latter is different from the former, there will be frequent urination, urinary urgency, urinary pain, and fever, lumbar pain, and in severe cases, it may even lead to sepsis and so on.
4. Treatment: the former is mainly to rest, absolute bedridden in the early stage, give antihypertensive diuretic drugs if necessary, and even need dialysis treatment in serious cases; the latter is mainly to anti-infective treatment, can be given quinolone antibiotics such as levofloxacin, etc., and drink plenty of water during the period of treatment.
Patients with acute glomerulonephritis and acute pyelonephritis are advised to consult a regular hospital in time and follow the doctor’s instructions for standardized treatment. The above medication should be taken under the guidance of a physician, and should not be used without authorization, so as not to aggravate the condition.
