What’s that bulge behind your child’s ear?

A bulge behind the child’s ear may be related to lymphadenitis behind the ear, sebaceous cyst, 1st gill groove cyst and other diseases.
1. Post-auricular lymphadenitis: when inflammatory lesions in the head and neck region are organized into the lymph nodes behind the ear through the lymphatic network, it is easy to be manifested as swelling of the lymph nodes behind the ear, and a bulge behind the child’s ear can be found.
2. Sebaceous cysts: due to exuberant secretion function, inflammation around the sebaceous gland ducts and other factors, resulting in sebaceous gland excretion obstruction to form retention cysts. When it develops behind the ear, it may appear as a bulge behind the ear.
3. 1st gill groove cyst: during embryonic development, the 1st gill groove develops abnormally, manifesting as a cystic mass that increases in size behind and below the earlobe.
