The Difference Between Uva Ursi and Epiphyllum

Wu Yao is the dried tuberous root of the plant Wu Yao, family Camphoraceae, mostly used raw. It is warm in nature, pungent in taste, and belongs to the spleen, lung, kidney and bladder meridians, and its effects are to move qi to relieve pain (by regulating the body’s qi to alleviate pain), and to warm the kidney to disperse cold.
Wu Yao is mainly used for treating chest and abdominal distension and pain caused by cold condensation and stagnation of qi or deficiency of kidney yang, asthma, hiccups, hernia pain, cold pain in the abdomen during menstruation, frequent urination due to bladder deficiency, and enuresis.
Pilosula, a processed product of the cotyledons of aconite, family Mulleinaceae, is very hot in nature, pungent, sweet and poisonous in flavor, and is attributed to the heart, kidney and spleen meridians. Its effects are to restore yang and save the body (by warming yang qi to save fainting, unconsciousness, etc.), tonify fire and help yang, and disperse cold to relieve pain.
Radix Scrophulariae is mainly used for treating yang qi exhaustion and deficiency; impotence and uterine cold due to kidney yang deficiency; vomiting and diarrhea, cold pain in the abdomen and edema due to spleen and stomach yang deficiency; chest pain due to heart yang deficiency; and unfavorable movement of limbs and pain due to cold and dampness.
Note that epiphyllum is poisonous and should be used in strict accordance with the dosage prescribed by the doctor, and should not be used in excess or for a long period of time. It is not suitable to use Radix et Rhizoma Polygoni Multiflori with Radix et Rhizoma Polygoni Multiflori, Radix et Rhizoma Piperitiae, Radix et Rhizoma Polygoni Multiflori, Radix et Rhizoma Polygoni Multiflori, or their products. It should not be used by people with yin deficiency or internal heat, or by pregnant women, and should not be consumed with alcohol during the period of consumption. Wu Yao is contraindicated in patients with qi deficiency or internal heat, and should be used with caution in pregnant women or those with a weak constitution.
