How to Boil Four Substances Soup for Uniform Use

Four Substances Soup should be made by soaking Radix Rehmanniae Praeparata, Radix Angelicae Sinensis, Rhizoma Ligustici Chuanxiong and Radix Paeoniae Alba in water, then simmering twice, and then mixing and dividing the liquid into equal portions and taking it 2-3 times a day.
Four Substances Tang is a classic blood tonic. Its basic formula consists of 12 grams of Radix Rehmanniae Praeparata, 9 grams of Radix Angelicae Sinensis, 9 grams of Radix Paeoniae Alba, and 6 grams of Rhizoma Ligustici Chuanxiong, and the herbs need to be cleaned briefly and then soaked in water for about 30 minutes prior to brewing.
When simmering, the herbs should be decocted quickly over a high heat, then boiled over a low heat for 20-30 minutes, and then the simmering broth should be poured out and added to water and simmered again for about 30 minutes.
The two boiled medicinal broth should be mixed and divided into 2-3 portions, which can be taken twice in the morning and evening, or three times in the morning, midday and evening.
When boiling Four Substances Soup, care should be taken to avoid overflowing of the medicine and drying up too quickly, as the medicine is warm in nature and may aggravate the heat of the body in people with deficiency of yin and heat in the blood, and is contraindicated for use by such people. If there is a need to add or subtract medicines, it is recommended to consult a physician and follow the doctor’s instructions for boiling and taking medicines.
