There is no such thing as a “quick” way to stop coughing in adults with wind-heat coughs. Coughs belonging to the wind-heat lungs can be treated with Sangju Drink, but the effects vary from person to person, and it is recommended that treatment be carried out under the guidance of a professional doctor.
Sangju Drink consists of mulberry leaves, chrysanthemums, almonds, forsythia, mint, bitter platycodon, licorice, and reed root. In the formula, Sang Ye and Chrysanthemum evacuate wind-heat in the upper Jiao; Mint helps Sang and Chrysanthemum evacuate wind-heat in the upper Jiao;
Almond and Platycodon grandiflorus promote the lung to stop coughing (by promoting lung qi to stop coughing); forsythia is bitter and cold to clear heat and remove toxins; rehmannia is sweet and cold to clear heat and produce fluids to quench thirst; licorice is used to harmonize the medicines (harmonize the properties of different traditional Chinese medicines), to remove wind and clear heat, and to promote the lung to stop coughing.
It is effective in relieving the symptoms, dispersing wind and clearing heat, promoting the lung and relieving cough. This formula is used for treating the first signs of wind-warmth, cough, low body heat, slight thirst, thin white coating, and floating pulse. Note that this formula should not be decocted for a long time. It should not be used in patients with wind-cold illness, and the adverse effects are not yet clear.
The above prescription should be used by TCM practitioners after diagnosis and avoid self-medication, so as not to cause damage to the organism by wrong medication.
