Jaundice is a symptom of elevated serum bilirubin concentration due to bilirubin metabolism disorders in the body, and is mainly manifested by yellowing of sclera, skin, mucous membranes, and deepening of urine color.
Jaundice can be caused by a variety of diseases, according to the cause can be divided into hemolytic jaundice, hepatocellular jaundice, cholestatic jaundice and so on.
1. Hemolytic jaundice: It is mainly caused by hemolytic diseases, such as autoimmune hemolytic anemia, marine anemia, hereditary spherocytosis, etc. These diseases will increase the destruction of red blood cells and increase the source of bilirubin, leading to the increase of the concentration in serum and causing jaundice.
2. Hepatocellular jaundice: it is mainly caused by liver diseases, such as viral hepatitis, cirrhosis, hepatocellular carcinoma, etc., which will cause certain damage to liver cells, resulting in the decline of liver function and the decrease of the ability of liver cells to process bilirubin, which will lead to the increase of serum bilirubin concentration and cause jaundice.
3. Cholestatic jaundice: mainly due to bilirubin excretion obstacle, such as primary biliary cirrhosis, bile duct stones, gallbladder stones, etc., which will lead to the obstruction of bilirubin excretion and increase the concentration of bilirubin in the serum, causing jaundice.
There are many causes of jaundice, as well as neonatal jaundice, etc. It is recommended to consult a doctor in time to identify the cause of the disease and carry out targeted treatment to avoid delaying the condition.
