Dry eye, also known as corneal conjunctival dryness, can be reasonably treated with medication, surgery, and other treatments.
1. Medication:
(1) Artificial tears: the purpose is to make substitution of tear components, which can keep the surface of the eye moist and relieve dry eye symptoms.
(2) Antibiotics: For dry eye caused by blepharitis, antibiotic drugs can be used to reduce inflammation and relieve dry eye symptoms, such as commonly used levofloxacin eye drops and erythromycin eye ointment.
(3) Drugs to promote tear secretion: drugs such as bromhexine and brucine hydrochloride can be taken orally to promote tear secretion in some patients.
(2) Surgery: For severe dry eye with normal function of submaxillary gland, it can be treated by autologous submaxillary gland transplantation; for patients with severe dry eye, permanent lacrimal punctum closure can be considered to keep the eyes moist by reducing and preventing the drainage of tears through the lacrimal ducts.
3. Other: such as wearing contact lenses, suitable for some patients with severe symptoms of inflammation, can protect the surface of the eye and capture moisture by wearing special contact lenses, such as commonly used scleral lenses, bandage lenses and so on.
Specific treatments, as well as medications, need to be under the guidance of a medical professional.
