Vaginal bleeding in elderly women may be cancerous, such as cervical cancer, endometrial cancer, or it may not be cancerous, such as endometrial polyps, uterine fibroids, cervicitis, geriatric vaginitis and so on.
1. It is cancer: older women, especially post-menopausal women, should be alert to cervical cancer and uterine cancer, etc.
(1) The high incidence age of cervical cancer is 50~55 years old, mostly caused by human papillomavirus infection. There are no obvious symptoms in early stage, and some patients will have contact bleeding, such as vaginal bleeding after sex or gynecological examination, and when the lesion erodes the large blood vessels, it will bleed profusely, such as ectopic type cancer.
(2) Endometrial cancer is a kind of epithelial malignant tumor occurring in the endometrium. The average age of onset is 60 years old, 75% of which occurs in women over 50 years old. The main symptom of elderly women is postmenopausal vaginal bleeding, and those who are not menopausal will have increased menstrual flow, prolonged menstruation and menstrual disorders.
2. Not cancer: it is common in endometrial polyps, uterine fibroids, cervicitis and senile vaginitis.
(1) Endometrial polyps and fibroids can lead to abnormal uterine bleeding and cause vaginal bleeding.
(2) Geriatric vaginitis and cervicitis can lead to symptoms such as contact bleeding, increased discharge, and blood in the leukorrhea.
Elderly women with vaginal bleeding should pay attention to it and seek medical attention as soon as possible to identify the cause and then treat it.
