Does tuberculosis recur after calcification?

TB does not usually recur after calcification, and the possibility of recurrence exists only rarely. If lung imaging is performed and old TB foci that have calcified are found, they usually do not recur. Calcification means that the TB lesion has lost its blood supply and has gone from being active to inactive. It is now inactive, so it is less likely to recur and usually becomes completely calcified and absorbed gradually. However, the probability of recurrence is not 100%. A very small number of people with old tuberculosis foci still have a small amount of tuberculosis bacilli inside the foci. At the same time, after the completion of treatment, irregular life, no exercise, low immunity, may cause recurrence. Therefore, patients with calcified TB lesions are advised to seek prompt medical attention to assess the likelihood of recurrence under the guidance of a physician.
