Is a 6-millimeter ground-glass nodule serious?

A 6-millimeter ground-glass nodule is often not serious and the vast majority do not require surgical treatment, but they do need to be reviewed periodically to take the next step in treatment depending on the rate of progression of the ground-glass nodule. There are a variety of possibilities for 6 mm ground glass nodules, such as calcified foci, infected foci, benign nodules, and cancer. Different nature of the lesions have different prognosis and require different treatments. In the case of calcified foci, no treatment is usually required and the body is usually not adversely affected. If they are foci of infection, anti-infective treatment is needed. For example, drugs such as piperacillin and cefazolin can be used for bacterial infections; drugs such as acyclovir and ganciclovir can be used for viral infections. With aggressive infection, healing is usually good. If it is a benign nodule, usually the border is clearer, the growth rate is slow, most of them will not be cancerous, regular review can be done, and most of them are not serious. If it is a cancerous lesion, generally the edge is blurred, the growth rate is faster, 6mm nodule is relatively small, mostly belongs to the early lesions, if there is no symptom, you can follow up and observe, regular review, if accompanied by symptoms such as coughing, pain, or faster growth rate, the condition may be more serious, and need to be surgically excised at the earliest possible time. Drugs need to be used under the guidance of a doctor, avoid self-medication.
