The original formula of Four Substances Tang was extracted from “The Secret Formula of Renewal and Severance of Injuries by Immortal Authorization”. This formula has the function of tonifying and regulating Blood. It is mainly used in treating the syndrome of deficiency and stagnation of blood in the camp, which is characterized by dizziness, palpitation (accelerated heartbeat, often accompanied by panic), insomnia, yellowish color, or irregular menstruation in women, with pale color of menstrual blood, small amount of menstruation blood or menstruation closure, pain in the umbilical cord and abdomen, and a pale tongue. In this formula, Radix Rehmanniae Praeparata nourishes yin and replenishes blood (nourishes the blood in the body) and is the main herb; Radix Angelicae Sinensis replenishes blood and blood and is used in combination with Radix Rehmanniae Praeparata to replenish blood and to promote the stagnation of blood in the camps; Rhizoma Ligustici Chuanxiong invigorates blood and promotes the flow of qi; Radix Paeoniae Alba nourishes blood and converges yin and softens the liver to ease the urgency and relieve the pain.
