How high blood sugar in late pregnancy affects the baby

Poorly controlled high blood glucose in late pregnancy may cause effects on the baby such as macrosomia, fetal distress or intrauterine fetal death, and preterm labor.
1. Huge fetus: the fetus is in the environment of hyperinsulinemia caused by maternal high blood glucose for a long time, and the metabolism in the body shows the promotion of protein and fat synthesis and the inhibition of lipolysis, which leads to the overdevelopment of the body, and may result in a huge fetus.
2. Fetal distress or intrauterine fetal death: this can be caused by diabetic ketoacidosis that occurs in late pregnancy. Diabetic ketoacidosis may complicate poor glycemic control in late pregnancy, leading to adverse pregnancy outcomes.
3. Preterm labor: high blood sugar in pregnancy may cause abnormal embryonic development, combined with excessive amniotic fluid, some pregnant women are prone to preterm labor.
Regular checkups during pregnancy are important. If you find high blood glucose during pregnancy, you should seek medical attention to correct it in time, so as to avoid adverse effects on both mother and child.
