What causes yellow eyes in children

Yellowing of the eyes in children is usually caused by excessive intake of foods rich in yellow pigment, liver and gallbladder diseases. Yellowing of the eyes in children usually manifests as localized yellowing of the white eyeballs, i.e., localized yellowing of the sclera, which may be caused by excessive intake of yellow pigment-rich foods, such as carrots, pumpkin, and oranges, etc., and the yellowing will gradually subside after the intake is stopped. In addition, diseases of the liver and biliary system can also cause yellowing of the eyes, i.e. jaundice, accompanied by yellowing of the skin, liver enlargement and mental instability, etc. If jaundice worsens progressively, it is necessary to go to the hospital in time for examination to make a clear diagnosis. If the yellowing of children’s eyes is not relieved for a long time or even aggravated, it is recommended to consult a doctor as soon as possible to find out the cause.
