Colla Corii Asini beads are concoctions of Colla Corii Asini. First, the Colla Corii Asini is cut into small pieces, scalded with clam powder until it becomes a round bead, immediately removed, sifted off the clam powder, and cooled. Colla Corii Asini is a blood tonic medicine, for the equine animal donkey’s dried skin or fresh skin by decoction, concentration made of solid gum. It is sweet in flavor, flat in nature, and belongs to lung, liver and kidney meridians, with the effect of tonifying blood and nourishing yin, moistening dryness and stopping bleeding. Colla Corii Asini is used in treating blood deficiency and atrophy, dizziness and palpitations (rapid heartbeat, often accompanied by panic), muscle impotence and weakness, restlessness and insomnia, internal movement of deficiency wind, coughing with dryness of the lungs, coughing and haemoptysis due to exertion, vomiting and urination of blood, haematochezia and leakage of blood from stools and faeces (excessive or dripping menstrual period), and foetal leakage of pregnancy (small amount of bleeding from vagina in the early stage of pregnancy). The adverse effects of Colla Corii Asini are not known. It should be used with caution in cases of loose stools (thin and unformed feces) due to spleen deficiency. If there is a need for medication, it is recommended that it be used under the guidance of a medical practitioner and not blindly on one’s own.
