Can fundus macular edema heal on its own?

It is possible for some fundus macular edema to heal on its own, e.g. macular edema caused by central plasma choroidal retinopathy can mostly heal on its own. However, due to the many causes of macular edema, some causes of macular edema can not be self-healing, such as: macular degeneration and other pathologies caused by macular edema is difficult to self-healing, most need treatment. Because macular edema for a long time will cause serious damage to vision, even if the macular edema disappears, the vision will not be improved. Therefore, patients with macular edema that does not heal on its own need to be treated with medication or surgery as soon as possible. Currently, the most commonly used treatments include oral medications and intravitreal injections. Oral medications such as Mazeline and intravitreal injections mainly refer to anti-vascular endothelial growth factor injections and glucocorticoid injections, such as trimethoprim injection, rezucizumab injection, compazine injection, and so on. It is recommended that patients seek timely medical treatment to clarify the cause of macular edema and timely treatment.
