One year old infants are capable of having hand surgery. However, depending on the baby’s illness, the attending surgeon will need to make a determination as to whether it is an emergency surgery or a limited term surgery or an elective surgery. Having hand surgery has little to do with age, but mainly with the condition. For many hand diseases, the earlier the surgery is done, the less impact it will have on the development of the child’s hand, such as polydactyly and syndactyly. Early surgery can effectively avoid the impact on the development of joints, tendons, ligaments and other structures in the hand. In infants and young children, who are developing rapidly at one year of age, early surgery can minimize surgical scars and avoid affecting the appearance of the hand. Current anesthesia techniques and medications have not significantly affected the anesthesia of one year olds. If a one year old child has a hand disease, it is recommended to go to the hospital in time to improve the examination, clear diagnosis, the operation time should be decided by the attending surgeon according to the baby’s condition.
