Powdered Dioscore is used for treating lumbar and knee pain, anointed lymph (urine as turbid as rice soup or slippery as grease, accompanied by frequent urination and urgency, and discomfort from traction in the lower abdomen), rheumatism pains, and also has therapeutic effects on excessive leucorrhoea, unfavorable joints, and leucorrhoea (cloudy urine like a white slurry).
Powdered Dioscorea is a traditional Chinese medicine and is the dried rhizome of the powdered back Dioscorea plant of the Dioscoreaceae family. It has a bitter flavor and is flat in nature, and enters the kidney and stomach meridians. Dioscorea villosa has the efficacy of dispelling wind and removing turbidity, in addition to inducing dampness and removing paralysis. It is used to treat rheumatism and paralysis, anaesthesia, lumbar and knee pain, as well as leucorrhoea, leucorrhoea and joint disorders.
The adverse effects and precautions of Dioscorea villosa are not clear for the time being, and should be used with caution in cases of spermatorrhea and seminal emission due to deficiency of kidney yin.
