Chemotherapy first or second for nasopharyngeal carcinoma

Nasopharyngeal cancer sometimes requires chemotherapy first, and sometimes chemotherapy later. When the nasopharyngeal carcinoma mass is small, radiation therapy is needed before chemotherapy. Simultaneous radiotherapy is most effective if the patient is physically able to tolerate it, and then consolidation chemotherapy is administered after the simultaneous radiotherapy. Sometimes, radiotherapy in the late stage of nasopharyngeal cancer can damage the surrounding normal structures too much, so chemotherapy can be considered first, and the tumor can be shrunk through chemotherapy, followed by synchronous radiotherapy and then consolidation chemotherapy. If distant metastasis has occurred, chemotherapy should be considered, which can be combined with local radiotherapy for nasopharynx after the whole body tumor has been controlled through chemotherapy.
