Adenomas are a type of polyp that belongs to the group of polyps often clinically referred to as adenomatous polyps. This article focuses on polyps and adenomas in the colon, from the nature and treatment of the two different aspects.
1. Different nature
(1) polyps are produced in some kind of stimulation of the local bulge, also become a non-tumor polyps, divided into inflammatory polyps, hyperplastic polyps, misshapen polyps three categories, the chance of malignant disease is very low.
(2) Adenomatous polyps also become neoplastic polyps, with a high chance of malignancy. It has been reported that adenomatous polyps with a diameter of up to 2 centimeters have a malignant rate of 50%.
2. Different treatments
(1) polyps: if the polyps caused by inflammation, the use of anti-inflammatory pain medications, such as: ibuprofen, etc., the drug should be used under the professional guidance of physicians, only when the polyp is large, bleeding, intestinal obstruction and other manifestations of the consideration of surgical treatment.
(2) Adenomatous polyps, once discovered, are usually treated by surgical resection under enteroscopic conditions and pathologic examination. If it is found to have turned malignant, chemotherapy (e.g., with mitomycin, furacil, etc.) and other treatments can be carried out in conjunction with it.
