Sinus balloon dilation involves the insertion of a small, flexible balloon into the sinus passages under nasal endoscopic guidance. The expansion of the balloon is used to restore the passages that have been narrowed or occluded by inflammation to their original size or slightly larger, allowing air to enter the sinuses smoothly and flushing the sinus cavity with saline for therapeutic purposes. Studies have shown that this procedure can successfully widen the sinus openings in all patients without causing complications or adverse effects. Pre- and post-operative CT scans, multi-angle endoscopy and gross examination have confirmed the safety of this technique.
Sinus balloon dilation advantages: Minimally invasive: this procedure can be done under local anesthesia without removing any tissue and is less destructive to tissue; less intraoperative bleeding and less postoperative pain and swelling.
Effective: Clinical data show that 97% of the occluded sinuses can be successfully opened with this technique. 90% of the patients tested felt a significant improvement in their symptoms.
Safe: The focus of this new technique is to achieve good results without complications.
Less pain and faster recovery: This treatment can significantly reduce the pain of patients compared to typical sinus surgery. Some patients are able to resume normal activities within 24 hours after surgery.
