Can you have intercourse before an abortion?

It is not recommended for a woman to have intercourse before having an abortion as it may increase the risk of infection.

Abortion needs to be performed in a sterile environment to avoid infection. Intercourse should be prohibited 48 hours before the procedure because it increases the chance of vaginal infection and may also lead to retrograde infection.

If a woman has a bacterial infection in her vagina, the procedure may cause the bacteria to spread to the uterine cavity, leading to endometritis and salpingitis, which is not good for your health, and may even lead to menstrual disorders and secondary infertility.

For the sake of your health and safety, it is recommended that you do not have intercourse within 48 hours before the abortion. You can’t have intercourse within a month after the abortion, and you should do a good job of personal hygiene to avoid infection.
