Can esophageal cancer be cured?

Whether esophageal cancer can be cured mainly depends on the stage of the tumor. Early stage esophageal cancer is generally curable; middle and late stage esophageal cancer is generally not completely curable, but the survival period can be prolonged. Early stage esophageal cancer has relatively limited lesions and can be treated clinically by endoscopic treatment. Early endoscopic mucosal resection can usually achieve a radical effect, or surgical resection can also achieve a radical effect, and the 5-year survival rate is usually more than 90%. In middle and late stage esophageal cancer, lymph node and multi-organ metastasis have already occurred, even if the resection rate of surgery is improved, the long-term effect is not ideal, and there are some middle and late stage patients who are in poor physical condition and can not tolerate surgery. Clinical radiotherapy, chemotherapy and other comprehensive treatments can inhibit the growth and reproduction of malignant cells and prolong the survival time of the patients, but they are very difficult to be cured. Patients with esophageal cancer must pay attention to go to the hospital as soon as possible to improve CT, gastroscopy and other related tests and examinations, so as to clarify the staging of the tumor and make personalized diagnosis and treatment plan.
