What’s wrong with high urinary free cortisol?

High urinary free cortisol may first be a normal test result in women during pregnancy. Secondly, it may be caused by cortisolism, adrenal tumors and other diseases.
1. Pregnant women: During pregnancy, the metabolism of glucocorticoids and hydrocorticoids in the body will change, and with the increase of pregnancy, the cortisol in the body of pregnant women will also increase.
2. Cortisolism: Cortisolism is a clinical syndrome caused by excessive secretion of glucocorticoid hormones, the cause of which is mainly related to the malfunction of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis. Due to the excessive secretion of glucocorticoids, the 24-hour urine free cortisol test shows high urinary free cortisol.
3. Adrenal tumor: adrenal tumor is a superfluous organism formed by the abnormal proliferation of local tissue cells of the adrenal gland, the etiology of which is not clear for the time being, and it may be related to heredity, environment and other factors. If the size of the tumor is large, it will cause the pituitary gland function disorder and lead to high urinary free cortisol.
For people with high urinary free cortisol, it is recommended to go to regular hospitals for further examination to clarify the cause and standardize the treatment to avoid delaying the condition.
