Poria can dispel dampness and heat, commonly used in spleen and stomach dampness and heat (spleen and stomach feel dampness and heat evil Qi) and other evidence. Poria has a sweet, light taste and flat nature, and goes to the heart, lung, spleen and kidney meridians. Its effects include seeping dampness, strengthening the spleen, tranquilizing the heart, inducing diuresis and eliminating edema (relieving urination and eliminating oedema), and it is mainly used in the treatment of diarrhea due to deficiency of spleen (diarrhea caused by weakness of the spleen), phlegm and drink (pathological products formed as a result of impaired metabolism of fluids and liquids), oedema, insomnia, and palpitation (rapid heartbeat, often accompanied by panic). Damp-heat trapped in different parts of the body will have different manifestations, such as the spleen and stomach, bladder, lower limbs, etc.. Dampness-heat in the spleen and stomach is often manifested as sweet and sticky mouth, easy to regurgitate acidic water after eating sweets, heavy body and limb fatigue, noisy (stomach has a feeling similar to hunger, emptiness with burning), yellowish urine, etc. The treatment is to strengthen the spleen to dispel dampness (by tonifying the spleen to make the dampness discharge) and clear the heat, and Poria cocos can be combined with Atractylodis macrocephala, Atractylodes cangtuberculatus, Coptis lanceolata and other Chinese herbal medicines. Note: Caution should be exercised if there is deficiency of qi and sinking, deficiency of cold and slippery essence, or deficiency of yin without dampness or heat. If medication is needed, please go to the hospital and use it under the guidance of doctor’s diagnosis.
