Symptoms of abdominal pain after taking the emergency contraceptive pill may be gastrointestinal reactions such as nausea, vomiting, abdominal distention, and abdominal pain. If vomiting occurs within 2 hours after taking the pill, a refill is required. If the pain occurs within 3-7 days after taking the pill, it is due to the action of the pill on the endometrium, causing the endometrium to change from a proliferative phase to a secretory phase, and with the withdrawal of progesterone, the endometrium undergoes ischemia, necrosis and shedding, inducing uterine contractions in the process and causing painful symptoms. The degree of pain varies and may be more pronounced in patients with a previous history of dysmenorrhea. For mild symptoms, hot water or salt heat packs can be used to warm the lower abdomen or massage the lower abdomen to relieve the symptoms. If the symptoms are more severe, symptomatic treatment with pain medication is needed.
