The efficacy of Ginseng is to tonify the kidney and yang, replenish qi and blood, and strengthen the spleen and stomach. It is usually used in decoction or in pills or powder for internal use. It is the whole herb or root of Dianchuan Yuanyang Ginseng, Donkey’s Punching Grass and Long-stemmed Yuanyang Ginseng of the genus Yuanyang Ginseng in the family of Asteraceae. It is bitter in taste and flat in nature. It has the effect of relieving cough and calming asthma (stopping cough and calming wheezing), strengthening the spleen and eliminating food, and lowering breast milk. It is used for treating bronchitis, tuberculosis, and pediatric noma (a chronic disease of children, manifested by emaciation, abnormal eating and drinking, abdominal distension, and thinning and yellowing of hair). It is not recommended for people with lung heat. If misused, it may cause coughing up blood, or coughing up blood, or nosebleeds, or irritability.
